Initially, when guests arrive, host must provide a personal friendly welcome at the front door. Then, lead guests to their room and offer to carry their luggage. A host may also want to give guests a quick tour of your home soon after they arrive and settle in. Once the guest have settle down from their trip offer them refreshments, a beverage and a light snack can do the job.
Obtain information on what they would prefer as a beverage in the morning and serve it. For example, a pot of freshly made tea served in the morning will always please guest that prefers tea in morning. For coffee lovers, coffee should be made of good quality and not instant.
Arrange an easily accessible area in the room where the guests can always find a drink or snack of some kind. Installing a water container and serving dish or bowl that contains fruits or cookies is a good idea. Proving a variety of beverages to the guests can be an added advantage. Do not forget to provide disposable drinking cups, eating trays and tissues in the room. Also, provide household appliances like hair dryer, iron and ironing board etc. for guest use. Another important are is bathroom. Keep toilet articles like shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste and soaps. Use of liquid soap is recommended in the bathroom so no guest has to use someone else’s soap.
Set up a common lounge with books and magazines and a variety of reading material. Provide a local and a national newspaper. If guests have children, you may even want to put card packs and indoor games and puzzle boxes.
In a country like Mexico, your guests would naturally want to know about the surrounding locations from you. As hosts, you should be able to answer questions about your area. Do mention nearby attractions and places of interest and provide guests with a brochure with frequently asked questions and answers about your Bed & Breakfast and the surrounding area. A good host should provide guests with a local map with location of your Bed & Breakfast other attractions marked on the map at no cost. It is also a good idea to provide leaflets and maps for the nearby areas of interest.
Some guest may also want o visit local restaurants in Mexico. Hence, it is a good idea to have a collection of menus from local restaurants. You may put these in guest rooms or leave them in your lounge area. Guests may like to browse through them in their free time. Additionally, you may also provide discount coupons for local restaurants, fast food chains and other attractions to your guests. If guests want to enjoy a special outdoor location, host may make special hampers for lunch or dinner for a fee. In addition, personal touch will also please guest. For example, serving special breakfast on special occasions will do. People on honeymoon can be offered breakfast in bed or a candle light dinner.
